It has been an honour to serve Neath as Member of Parliament since 2015, and today I can confirm that I shall be seeking re-selection as the Labour and Cooperative candidate for the General Election scheduled for the 8th June 2017.
I have voted to support the Government’s motion that there shall be an early Parliamentary General Election because I am a democrat, and believe in giving people every chance to have a say on who runs our Country. The Tory Party, led by a Theresa May, are determined to push through the hardest of Brexits that will see us taken out of the single market, workers’ rights being scrapped and environmental laws being repealed.
A General Election will give the people of the UK a choice, one that will involve re-electing a failing Tory Government with broken promises and an illogical commitment to austerity, or electing a Labour Party with bold and ambitious policies, ideas that will bring prosperity and hope for all.
We cannot reject the opportunity to give our Country this choice.
